Brief History and Role

The Consiglio Nazionale Geometri e Geometri Laureati (CNGGL) was established in 1929. It is the national representative body of the independent surveyors' profession. CNGGL is regulated by the D.lgs. lgt. n. 328 of 23rd November 1944, organising the relations between CNGGL (as national representative body) and the individual Provincial Colleges of the Surveyors (as local professional bodies). In particular, the law above mentioned concerns the registration of surveyors, disciplinary power and electoral matter.

Principal Activities

The operative ambit of CNGGL concerns both the instrumental aspects of professional practice (for example the field of the professional code of conduct, of quality and education) and the specific technical activities (for example cadastre, topography, real estate, building and town planning).

In fact, CNGGL has established several Study Commissions, each concerned with a specific sector: Agriculture, Cadastre-Topography, Competence, Building, Education-Data Processing System-Civil Protection, International, Revenue-Rate, Real Estate-Expert Activity-Quality, Territory-Environment-Urban Planning, and Learning.

CNGGL has also established a Political Commission that has the task of entertain relationship with local and national political Bodies, and a Press Commission for the external communication.

Principal Areas of Policy

CNGGL Institutional tasks are:

* The function of special judge concerning disputes between surveyors concerning the disciplinary actions, registration and striking off the roll and electoral disputes;
* The representation and the safeguarding of independent surveyors' professional interests, professional improvement, education and quality.

Moreover, CNGGL Members express opinions on all matters concerning the practice of the profession both towards the administrative authorities and, when requested, towards the legislatives bodies.

Organisation

The Consiglio Nazionale Geometri e Geometri Laureati is a public, juridical non economic body established under the Ministry of Justice.
It is composed of a collective and elective body of 11 members with a 3 years mandate.

For the day to day administrative activities, the organisation has its own operative structure constituted by staff which fulfills policies of CNGGL competence.

It guarantees cadastral and data processing services to all independent professional and registered surveyors. It works also through the 'Fondazione Geometri Italiani', which publishes weekly a survey called Geocentro.

Membership

Independent professional surveyors who carry out activities in the following fields:

* Building-Safety-Public works;
* Cadastre-Topography;
* Real Estate;
* Territory-Environment-Town planning; and
* Agriculture

Publications

As indicated above the CNGGL produces regular updates in national dailies economic and professional profile and it also updates the quality and education towards both customers and providers. The Institute also has an interactive website which can be accessed by members of the Institute and non members.
